| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Bob Seger has racked up a lot of worthy tracks over the years, but it took until 1994 for a greatest hits package to appear. Voil. The bad news: We're missing an awful lot of songs here. Night Moves is Seger's crit-pick album, and a great place to start if you don't have any Seger at all. Next in the rankings is Stranger in Town. Otherwise, his highs are pretty scattered, which would make any best-of package a worthy investment. But if you want to get comprehensive, "Rock & Roll Never Forgets," "Fire Down Below," "Horizontal Bop," "Her Strut," "Betty Lou's Getting Out Tonight," and "Katmandu" aren't on this CD--and you'll have to go to the original albums to secure them. --Gavin McNett

Bob Seger's music is great February 2, 2000 32 out of 39 found this review helpful
I originally bought this cd because I loved the song, "Against The Wind." I didn't even know that Bob Seger sung all of these other great songs that I also liked such as, "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "Still The Same." After I listened to the whole cd, I realized why I had always heard a lot of people talk about how good Bob Seger was. There's not any bad songs on this album, most of them are great. "Night Moves" and "Like A Rock" became two more of my favorite classic songs. I recommend any true rock fan to get this album. Hopefully, Bob Seger has a Greatest Hits Vol. 2 in mind for one of these days.
All-American classics November 16, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is one of those rare "best of" albums that actually contains more than one or two hits. Nearly everything on here, from the legendary "Night Moves" to the bittersweet "Against the Wind" and the anthemic "Like a Rock" (which still packs a punch, despite being overexposed by a certain auto company) ranks as a genuine rock classic. Look over the tracks and ask yourself: How many of these have I heard on the radio? I guarantee, if you have even a passing familiarity with rock radio, then you've heard most of these played at some time. Unlike some songs, which show their age within a few years, these are timeless, memorable tunes that that effectively blend the best elements of American music--some rockabilly, a little country-western, a touch of folk sensibility, and working-class rock n' roll stylings backed by first-rate performances and Seger's dynamic vocal work--rough and tough one moment, sentimental and contemplative the next. True, there are a few Seger classics missing from this set--"Rock n Roll Never Forgets," Nine Tonight," "Beautiful Loser," "Katmandu," and the underrated "Living Inside my Heart" from the "About Last Night" soundtrack--but this is still a great disc full of great songs. Hopefully, we will someday see a fully comprehensive set of Seger's work. Until then, this will do just fine. VERY highly recommended.

Woke up Last Night to the Sound of Thunder... October 28, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
...How far off, I sat and wondered... Started humming a song from 1962 Ain't it funny how the night moves?
As a child of the 60s already feeling out of place in the late 70s, those lines pierced me to the heart. How many nights as a teenager full of angst did I listen to the sound of thunder and count off the seconds trying to determine when the storm would arrive? Because, of course, when the rain would come, I could sleep like a child again.
Yeah, Bob Seger grabbed me when that song came out in 1976 and I've been a fan ever since. You could even say that his songs are cliches of my life: Like a Rock, We've Got Tonight, Still the Same, Against the Wind, Rock and Roll Never Forgets and so on.
This little collection is great and everybody ought to have it. Sure, it could have more cuts, but for what it is, it is really worth the money. I've worn out two copies already and am on the third one! Best part is, even my grown children and my classics loving husband like Bob Seger!
I still wake up to the sound of Thunder... and hum Bob Seger's "Night Moves"!
Seger's finest hard-driving rock collection ever! March 19, 2000 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
For over 20 years, Bob Seger has been one of the best mainstream rock'n'rollers in America, developing a distinctive body of honest, hard-rocking songs. More songs that can be put on this single-disc set, unfortunately. While many of Seger's trademarks are here like "Turn The Page", "Old Time Rock & Roll" and "Night Moves". There is no "Rock & Roll Never Forgets", "Katmandu", "Shame On The Moon", or any of his pulverizing early records, when he was as tough as fellow Michigan rockers MC5, Grand Funk Railroad and the Stooges. Nevertheless, what is here is fine and contains enough first-rate material to satisfy most music fans!
